About sysstat's creator and maintainer
Sébastien Godard
first discovered computing as a kid, programming in assembly language on his father’s Apple II. Drawn to open systems, he quickly embraced Linux in the early 1990s, captivated by the freedom and complete control it offered. He honed his skills on one of the earliest distributions: Slackware.
This passion led him to pursue a degree in computer engineering, graduating from École Centrale de Lille with a specialization in Computer Science. Currently, he works as a real-time computer engineer at RTE, the French electricity transmission system operator, where he contributes his expertise to critical infrastructure projects.
As the creator and maintainer of sysstat, an essential suite of tools for monitoring Linux system performance, Sébastien combines technical precision with a deep commitment to the open-source community. His work embodies a vision: making systems more transparent and accessible for everyone.
Beyond the screen, Sébastien balances mind and body: A black belt in Aikido, he also enjoys mountain trekking and traveling. But his greatest pride remains his family—his wife and two children, who inspire him every day.
